Think Local, Thank Local 2008
Food For Free Charity Drive
Think Local, Thank Local
A project of Cambridge Local First
Cambridge Local First is holding a Thanksgiving fundraiser to benefit Food For Free. During the week starting the Friday after Thanksgiving (November 23-30), participating CLF businesses pledged to contribute a percentage of their sales to Food For Free.
The Think Local, Thank Local campaign exceeded its goal of $5,000 in this first year and raised over $7,000! We have raised awareness of this wonderful organization and of Cambridge Local First among residents and all shoppers during the beginning of the holiday season.
Food For Free has been operating for over 25 years. This organization responds to local hunger by rescuing fresh food that might otherwise go to waste and distributing it within the emergency food system where it can reach those in need. Each month, Food For Free's Produce Rescue program distributes fresh fruits and vegetables to between 50 and 60 food programs that collectively serve between 15,000 and 20,000 individuals. Programs served include food pantries, emergency shelters, meal programs, clinics and youth centers. Food For Free expects to distribute more than 800,000 pounds of food in 2006.
Thank you to participating businesses:
