CLF Hires Full-Time Executive Director Janneke House; current AC Dan Meyers will depart in September.

Cambridge Local First is thrilled to announce that on the same date and in the same location where CLF was founded exactly five years ago, we hired our first full-time Executive Director. On Wednesday, July 14, Janneke House accepted the position of CLF Executive Director. She received her Bachelor's Degree and Masters Degree in Urban Planning at the University of Utah. She served as the Senior Policy Advisor for the Mayor of Salt Lake City with a focus on economic development and other areas. Janneke recently ran for the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah and lost in a very close election in her first entree into local politics.

Janneke decided to move to Boston this summer because she has long had a dream of moving to the Boston/Cambridge area. She feels that this new job offers her an exciting opportunity to work with local entrepreneurs who are working to build the local economy. She's especially enthusiastic about working in an urban area that is more elegantly designed for a sustainable community and a strong local economy. Janneke begins work on August 2.

Our current administrator, Dan Meyers, has been the Administrative Coordinator of Cambridge Local First since July 2008. After over two years of dedicated work for the movement to build a strong Cambridge economy, Dan will complete his time as a CLF staff member at the end of August. As most of you know, Dan is an accomplished musician and an entrepreneur at heart. He promises to remain active in our local economy movement and to help it grow, both in Cambridge and in Somerville. The Cambridge Local First Steering Committee wishes Dan the best in the future and thanks him for his work for CLF.

The 2011 Members' Directory Is Coming Soon!!2010 directory cover

The 2011 edition of the Cambridge Local First Members' Directory is being laid out as we speak, and will be ready for distribution by the beginning of September. As in past years, this current directory is the result of months of hard work on the part of the CLF Directory Committee, CLF Steering Committee, and Ambit Press, as well as generous financial support from Cambridge Savings Bank, Cambridge Trust, and East Cambridge Savings Bank. The design and style of the directory have once again been created by Kevin McNavich, and this year's edition will also feature several artful photos of Cambridge neighborhoods taken by one of our newest members, photographer Doug Klostermann.

We've been getting requests for more directories from all quarters, and we're happy (and sad) to say that as of July, we are completely out of the 2010 Directories. We'll be printing 5,000 more copies of the 2011 version (for a total of 30,000), in order to meet the growing demand for this one-of-a-kind guide to local Cambridge businesses.

Keep an eye on the website for information about the 2011 Directory Release Party, to be held in September!
